Built to help voters quickly verify how officials vote — district first, party second. All information is sourced from official public records.

About OurCongress

OurCongress is a public-data project built to help voters quickly and confidently understand what their elected officials are actually doing in Congress.

The goal is simple: district first, party second. No commentary. No persuasion. Just verified records presented in plain English.

Where the data comes from

All information is sourced directly from official government systems and processed without modification or interpretation.

What this site does not do

OurCongress exists to reduce confusion — not to tell anyone what to think.

Project status

This project is under active development. Data is updated continuously, and new features are being added as official sources allow.

What is this vote?

Congress records many votes that are not directly tied to a bill. These can still be important — they often decide what happens next.

  • Procedural votes: Steps that move business forward (or block it), like setting debate rules or agreeing to consider an item.
  • Nominations: Confirming executive branch or judicial nominees.
  • Resolutions: Votes on measures that may express a position, set internal rules, or address limited-purpose actions.
  • Limited source details: Sometimes the official feed includes only a short label. When that happens, we show what we have and link to the official record when possible.

Tip: If a vote has no related bill listed, it doesn’t mean it’s “fake” — it usually means it’s a procedural vote, a nomination, or the source record didn’t include a bill reference.
