The bill also prohibits federal firefighters from being removed from the civil service due to a RIF during a government shutdown.
District impact notes
The Federal Firefighter Paycheck Protection Act provides funding for federal firefighters to receive pay during a government shutdown. • This bill could help ensure that federal firefighters in the district maintain their employment and compensation during periods of government inactivity. • Local public services that rely on federal firefighters may experience stability in operations if these workers are protected from layoffs. • There may be questions about how the funding will be allocated and whether it could impact other federal budget priorities.
